The church of Santa Margherita, attached to the homonymous monastery and linked to the monastic experience of Sister Virginia, was founded by the humiliated in the thirteenth century then passed to a community under the rule of Saint Benedict.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the condition of the building was so precarious that it required significant interventions that gave the church the appearance we still see today.
When at the end of 1800, for reasons of viability, the nearby church of medieval foundation of Saint Maurice, officiated at the time of Virginia by priest Paolo Arrigone, was demolished, its furnishings and the title itself were transferred to the monastic church, which has since been dedicated to both saints, Maurice and Margaret.
Its ancient location is recognizable where now there is the large pink building at the corner of Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Porta.
Evidence of this is the presence of a small square dedicated to the saint in via Vittorio Emanuele 38 that recalls its presence in ancient times.
