2008 is a turning point for the chapel.
On 24 January, the Gaiani Foundation officially signs the agreements with the various partners involved in the economic and scientific support for the major restoration of wall paintings and entrusts the work to Anna Lucchini, assisted by a large team of collaborators.
After thirteen months of preliminary scientific investigations, carried out in close cooperation between scientists and restorers, the intervention can begin, aiming at the preservation of the work and the recovery of even the smallest original fragment, Performed with egg and oil tempera, precious colors like lacquers, gold, silver and tin: from the traces of the bardatures of horses to the golden finishes of the robes, from the armor of the knights to the background gold and grass.
And thus recover valuable technical data, from the beginning to the days necessary for execution, the identification of “patrons” and complex executive techniques.
After six years of “surgical” work with ultrasound, lasers, nanoparticles, light sources on demand, all combined with the very high competence and intervention capacity of the restorers, it was possible to reach the desired goal: the restitution to the public of the Chapel of Theodolinda.
