Conceived in 1990 by a Monza family, who with a true spirit of patronage fully financed and then donated it to the Cathedral and the city, the Carlo Gaiani Section, dedicated to the memory of the renowned Monza entrepreneur, was inaugurated in November 2007. It hosts the extraordinary collection of artifacts that have become part of the basilica’s heritage from the time of its reconstruction in 1300 to the present day.
Within an architectural space arranged on two levels with a captivating layout enhanced by the element of light – a fundamental characteristic of the Museum’s atmosphere – the path is divided into four subsections, in which the collection is grouped by themes to contextualize the objects in relation to the history of the Cathedral and the city.
The collection on display is the result of a significant effort to return the artistic heritage, previously hidden from the public, to the local area.
