La prima sezione del museo, inaugurata nel 1963, è dedicata al Tesoro, cioè quanto resta dello straordinario patrimonio di reliquie e oreficerie che sovrani e arcivescovi donarono alla basilica di Monza tra il VII e l’XI secolo.
Due ne sono i nuclei principali: quello delle suppellettili offerte all’inizio del VII secolo dai sovrani longobardi Agilulfo e Teodolinda, fondatori della chiesa intorno al 595-600; e quello dei preziosi manufatti donati dall’imperatore Berengario I all’inizio del X secolo.
Inoltre in questa sezione sono custoditi preziosi paramenti liturgici medievali.
