Museo e Tesoro

The Treasury

Opened in 1963, the first section holds the oldest part of the Treasury, i.e. what is left of the splendid collection of relics and precious metalwork donated to Monza cathedral by rulers and archbishops between the 7th and 11th century.

The collection comprises two groups of artefacts: furnishings donated by the Lombard sovereigns, Theodelinda and Agilulf, in the 7th century, and those endowed by Emperor Berengar at the beginning of the 10th century.

Despite some losses the museum has one of the world’s most important collections of early medieval reliquaries and metalwork.
